The 8th grade collected the most pounds per person, followed closely by the 1st grade. The 6th grade and the four Pre-K classes tied for third. The two elementary grade students received fruit ice pops as treats and the two middle school grades opted for a casual dress day. A big “Thank You” to SMS students, parents, and friends for your generous donations. Please note we will have aluminum can drives again in January 2007. The following students were appointed to serve a one-semester term on the executive committee of SMS Student Council. Jamie Davis, 8th grade/historian; Kala Calzada, 7th grade representative/parliamentarian; and Peyton Kneese, 6th grade representative/reporter. These students were selected based on their prior contributions to SMS Stuco and for their leadership skills. On September 26th Stuco president Autumn Durst announced Teacher Appreciation Day. SMS teachers were surprised to find a note of appreciation, with a piece of candy attached, waiting for them in their mailbox. Autumn encouraged all students to be sure and let their teacher know how much they are loved and valued. Sixth grade STUCO members attended an orientation meeting on September 18th to learn more about the committee structure of SMS Student Council. Each student was assigned to a committee to help 7th and 8th grade members complete designated projects. October projects include an internet safety booth, a water conservation booth, SEEDs week (Safe Environment Education Days), red ribbon week, student appreciation day, a Stuco social and the haunted house fund raiser. On Saturday, October 28th SMS students will travel to Westlake High School in Austin for the District 18 Fall Convention of the Texas Association of Student Councils. All STUCO members are eligible to attend the day long series of workshops and general meetings. More information will be available to students and parents soon on the school website. SMS student council officers will give a presentation on parliamentary procedures and our Stuco constitution. The next SMS Student Council meeting is Tuesday, October 3rd at lunchtime. | | 2006-2007 Student Council Activity PhotosClick on any image below to view larger image | | | | | | | | | | |
